Gewölbesanierung im Mont-Blanc-Tunnel

Einschlagschutz - Gewölbesanierung im Mont-Blanc-Tunnel 2024

The ROCKFALL-X A system absorbs rock falls from the vault over the entire width of the tunnel; the decking is easily cleared thanks to the metal plate installed at the top

Situation

The Mont-Blanc Tunnel is 60 years old and one of Europe’s major tunnels, which needs renovation work to ensure its long-term survival. With this in mind, the first test phase of work in autumn 2024 determined the methodologies for future project phases. Renovation of the Mont-Blanc Tunnel vault will involve removing the existing lining, as the resulting boulder falls will bring too much energy to bear on the running slab and could damage it.

Massnahme

Based on the data provided by Setec, we worked together to justify and supply a ROCKFALL-X A solution to cushion these falling boulders and protect the running slab. As the site was mobile and operated in a confined environment, the ROCKFALL-X A system was combined with a metal decking that could be drained and moved quickly by site machinery.
