Situation
The track section Andermatt - Göschenen of the Matterhorn Gotthard railway is frequented up to 56 times per day. In the tunnel portal area, below the Teufelswand (Devilswall), the railway infrastructure and passing trains are at risk of rockfall.
Description
To minimize the risk for infrastructure, trains and passengers in the area below the 70 meter high Teufelswand, a ROCCO-2000 system was put in place. At the same time, this rockfall barrier should ensure the operational availability of the railway line.
Due to unknown trajectories of the rockfall, the highest possible barrier of six meters was installed on the total length of 31 meters.
