Situazione

In July 2021, the Ahrtal (Germany) was hit by one of the worst flood disasters in Germany. The railroad line running through the valley was almost destroyed. Almost four years later, not everything has been restored, but reconstruction is making visible progress. The line should be back in operation in 2025.

Descrizione

To protect the rebuilt railway line from rockfall, thirteen rockfall barriers with a total length of 570 meters have been installed along the route over the past few months.

In addition, approximately 18,000 m² of embankment areas have been netted and secured. Eight more rockfall barriers with an additional length of 590 meters and around 7,000 m² of additional netting will follow before the line is scheduled for operation at the end of the year.

The rockfall protection (RXE-2000) gallery installed in the Altenahr station area, directly above the new platform, is a central element.

Work is carried out in shifts to complete this construction project on schedule, sometimes around the clock.
