Situation

Foix is the chief city of the French department of Ariège. It is located in the valley of the Ariège river, surrounded by the foothills of the Pyrenees. Rockfalls from slopes north of the valley endangered parts of Foix's residential area. Consequently, the municipal administration decided that safety measures are required to preserve the integrity of its inhabitants and their homes.

Description

A total of five rockfall barriers have been installed to protect the area at risk. The entire 300-meter-long barrier line comprises GBE-1000A and GBE-3000A systems. The individual barriers are 48 to 72 meters long, and their heights range between four to five meters.
