Hungary’s Balaton Park Circuit opens with MotoGP safety showcase

19 August 2025

- New FIA Grade 2 Circuit enters the MotoGP calendar
- Geobrugg delivers 6 km of concrete barriers and debris fencing for full circuit protection
- Hungary returns to MotoGP after 33-year hiatus

18 August, 2025: Balaton Park Circuit, a newly built FIA Grade 2 Circuit, is entering the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship calendar this year, and Geobrugg was there to pave the way to its safety.  Swiss company, Geobrugg, has provided the concrete barriers and debris fences that will line the full 4.115 km circuit, ready for MotoGP action.

This brings an exciting new era to Hungary, with racing dubbed to be as close as ever at Balaton Park.  The track was designed by architect Ferenc Gulacsi, who set three principals for it’s design, Safety, Challenge of Racing, and Sustainability.

It was decided in 2024, that Balaton Park will be the setting for the long-awaited return of Grand Prix-level motorcycle racing to Hungary, hosting the first MotoGP Grand Prix of Hungary in 33 years and the first World Superbike event of the country in 35 years.

After thorough planning, some modifications were carried out to ensure the track complies with the highest safety standards of FIM.

To achieve this, Geobrugg installed more than 6 km of debris fencing around the venue, providing critical protection for both spectators, track marshals, and participants. Additionally, 32 meters of single-sided concrete barriers have been erected, each integrated with fence panels to further reinforce the perimeter.

For motorcycle racing, an additional layout was built in across three corners of the track, the run-off zones were expanded to three times of their former area, the external service road was constructed, the safety fences and barriers were rebuilt in connection with the above, and hundreds of track marshals received high-level training to provide a safe and professional environment for motorcycles.

Over 35 Flexible Openings were installed, giving camera crew and photographers a streamlined look out on to the track.

This comprehensive safety installation represents a significant milestone in the project, underscoring the team's dedication to meeting the highest international safety standards.

BALATON PARK QUOTE: “Following several test events and successfully hosting the Hungarian Round of World Superbike 2025 world championships, Balaton Park Circuit is ready to welcome the greatest motorcycle series of the world, MotoGP Grand Prix of Hungary between 22nd and 24th August 2025.  Expectations for the track are high, but not as high as those of our own, to provide a perfect physical, technical and sports-related background to this highly anticipated and illustrious event.

“The management and the operational team can hardly await the arrival of participants, fans and all others related to this fabulous celebration of motorsport, expect exciting, intense but most importantly safe races and wish for amazing experiences for all attendees.”

Jochen Braunwarth, Director of Motorsport Solutions at Geobrugg: “We’re very excited to be part of Balaton Parks ventures into MotoGP. The track already had a stellar opener with the World Superbike Championship, and will now bring more eyes to the circuit with the first Grand Prix of Hungary in over 30 years.”
