Situation

Over the years, the slopes above the railway between Dawlish and Holcombe have experienced continuous failures, causing significant delays, closures, and operational challenges.

The project aimed to address these challenges by combining multiple work areas to create a cohesive and effective protective system.

Description

To ensure the stability of the slopes above the railway, we collaborated with Tony Gee and Partners to develop a robust and durable solution. The solution involved installing TECCO® G65/3 Stainless Steel mesh, known for its exceptional resistance to corrosion — a crucial factor given the challenging coastal environment of South West England.

Designed to provide protection for over 120 years, this system offers long-term security for the rail infrastructure. By utilizing compliant P33/50 and P66/50 stainless steel spike plates, Tony Gee and Partners were able to precisely model and design the stabilization system using our specialized RUVOLUM® software. This approach ensured optimal placement and performance, safeguarding the railway for future generations.
