2024
The exceptionally bad weather at the end of 2023 weakened the earthwork on the Villaret slope. As a result, train traffic was interrupted and then restricted for several months, and the Villaret slope had to undergo major reinforcement work.
A nailed wall with a flexible facing reinforced the unstable overburden zone above the tunnel head. The structure combines more than 400 anchors with diameters of 28 mm and 32 mm, with depths ranging from three to twelve meters, and a flexible facing consisting of around 3,700 m² of TECCO mesh, supplemented by a TECMAT anti-erosion geogrid. In addition, two drainage groins were installed directly in the reprofiled ground before the mesh was put in place to drain the water resurgence observed at the top of the slope.
The work was completed in spring 2024, and the temporary speed limits (LTV) in place on the Villaret slope since December 2023 ended in July 2024 before the summer season started.
